To Be Lionhearted

Do you wonder sometimes if people think that “being spiritual” is a mushy, vague, soft-lens perspective on life that is only apparent (and useful) in sunny, carefree days?

Funny, huh? Because everyone I know has proven the usefulness – the true worth – of a spiritual view in times of hardship, as they urgently (ok, desperately!) insist on feeling a powerful, beyond-human source of wisdom, love, and goodness to guide them through dark times. Certain that eventually they will see the positive effect in the human experience.

This reliance on spirituality often demands a fierceness in the face of a fearful situation. A courage that defies human logic and reaches for spiritual intuition, then reasons out from that basis. Because it’s a dark place before the sun dawns. This is when spirituality proves its worth.

To be lionhearted in living your spiritual nature moves you forward, regardless of opposition or resistance or struggle. Think about it, you can’t be lion-hearted and sit and wait for something to happen or someone to come to the rescue. Ah, that’s another attribute – lions are usually in a group, a pride, that they are protecting. So the fierce courage and fierce care isn’t selfish, its reason-to-be is community!

All of our communities – our humanity, really – need more lionhearted spirituality lived today. Stories shared this month will profile people living their big, courageous, and tenacious hearts to care for their community. And make a tangible, positive difference.
