De-Comfort Your Zone!

Is your Comfort Zone, that mental space where you are satisfied defaulting to the same fixed routine, actually a stagnant zone? Oooh, do you avoid those experiences (or people!) that challenge you to learn and grow because they make you un-comfortable? Could be you are not in a comfort zone at all, but a coward zone!

Since it is Halloween Month, we are going to focus on stories from the Scary Zone: celebrate the courage of those who have pushed themselves in spite of fear, so that they can leave the safe routine to learn more, become better at something, make a difference for someone else, or even be a role model for that someone else. As the old adage says, ships were made for the open sea, not for the safe harbor!

A lot of fears stack up against leaving the comfort zone, that is for sure. And it is mighty tempting to believe there is some benefit to maintaining your life just the way it is right now. After all, it is probably the nice result of working hard to make it drama-free, eh?

What can encourage you to peek above the horizon line of the status quo to a wider, more expansive view, and face the fear of change? One of our editors says that an early morning spiritual practice of deep meditation helps to identify herself with soul-fulfilling qualities, like compassion, intelligence, generosity, bravery, vitality. This practice fills her spiritual reservoir and fortifies her for 2/3 of the day in the Scary Zone. The other 1/3 of the day she says she recoups back in the Comfort Zone!

Maybe it isn’t a comfort zone at all but a COCOON. A place to pause, spiritually reflect and refresh, re-energize…even plot your next stretch! So de-comfort your zone and it becomes the no-more-zone.

It’s Halloween month, embrace the scary stuff!

What a great theme for October! Just shared your pumpkins with some friends facing something way outside their comfort zone. Thanks for all the good that’s gone up on your site, and all the good that’s coming.
