Something Good is Happening

It feels like something is coming – a shift, a change, a difference – after the tragedy last week in Parkland, Florida. Among the many voices responding, InspiredToGive.org posted a recent editorial on the role of “thoughts and prayers” to impel positive action. We have received comment from folks who feel – and see – the same effect. One of our correspondents, Travis Thomas, calls this effect PRACTION (prayer + action)…we think it can be a mighty movement of thoughts and deeds.

Here is a response from Pastor Dieter Randolph of Water and Stone Church in St. Petersburg, Florida. We will post future responses to move thought and action forward. Please consider sharing your own PRACTION – your thoughts and prayers that have led you to act for good. LEAVE A REPLY on our website below or on our Facebook page.

From Pastor Dieter Randolph:

I’m a preacher. My parents, and their parents, were too. It’s all I ever wanted to be, and I really believe that it’s the reason I’m here on earth. I absolutely live for those moments when I can help somebody bring spirituality to bear on real life and connect the immanent and the transcendent.

In other words, I’m in the thoughts and prayers business. That’s what I’m here to do. I love hearing that people are thinking and praying. But the purpose of those tools is to make the world a better place. Thoughts and prayers aren’t the end of a process. They aren’t even the middle. If we’re doing it right, we start with prayer, and then take our consciousness into action. If your inner work doesn’t inspire outer effort, something’s wrong.

I think we can fix this, though. Let’s start by doing what we’re best at. Politicians, if you’re praying and not doing, maybe it’s time to let the professionals take over. I’LL focus on the prayer part. YOU focus on doing something to make the world a safer place for our kids.
